That's something you should ask a seamstress but I've read that it can be tough to alter more than 2 sizes in either way. That said, if the dress doesn't have a lot of structure built in, it *could* be possible. Have you tried calling any of the stores to see if anyone has a smaller size in stock? They might be able to ship it to you if you don't have a store close to you. Also, retailers can often check stock in other nearby stores.

Found it on amazon in a 4 that'd probably be a more realistic alteration.

ETA: Actually sorry it's a slightly different design but it's by the same designer and very similar, sorry if it's not exactly what you want though, you may just have to wait for the other one to come back in stock or keep a close eye on ebay/amazon
ETA again: Actually it might be the same just with straps that'd probably be easy to remove, I'm not 100% sure

It's possible. I've seen it done.
However, she has to cut a lot of that dress up. You might lose parts of the design that you love

That just sounds impossible to me. But I really don't know.

If the dress I posted isn't similar enough you can probably take pictures in to a local dress maker and have it replicated.

I tried on a dress off the sample rack that I liked, but it was 4 sizes too big. The seamstress there told me that because it was lace, it would cost me just as much to buy the dress as is and alter it as I would to get a brand new dress. I guess it depends on the material and the complexity of the alterations.

The rule of thumb is up two sizes, down 4. . . Which means that, in theory, it should be possible.

It would be a lot easier to just gain the weight.

Round of applause for Cassidy. Nicely done. I hope she bought it!

Lol I hope so too! It's definitely selling out fast and you have to search for it under different names like "Erin Fetherston floral print chiffon gown" to find it at stores that aren't anthropologie so I can see why she thought she'd just have to take the 10 or leave it

My dress was pre-owned and it is a size 14 - I am a size 2-4 and my seamstress said it was no problem.

My friend had a size 12 taken down to a 0-2 (she's a teeny tiny thing) and it was pure perfection. It's possible, but your seamstress should be very skilled.

I'm not a seamstress, but I feel like that particular dress you could. The bodice though rouched looks simple enough to modify...but like I said, I'm not a seamstress. It's super pretty though! Maybe try finding it closer to your size on etsy or ebay?

Normally I would say altering from a size 10 down to a size 2 would not be a good idea but I agree with MrsBest2b that with your particular dress you could.
I see that you are also in Northern VA area, try my amazing seamstress Angie Cavallaro! She is sweet, passionate and extremely talented at being a seamstress. Her email address is *****@*******.***

Good luck!
ETA: Email her the picture of the dress and ask her if it would be possible. She will give it to you straight up whether it is possible or not.
